Effective Campus and Community Relationships
Graduates should be able to relate effectively with a wide range of people.
Specifically, students should be able to demonstrate relational and professional competence...
- In relating across cultural boundaries with many different kinds of people
- In relation across functional boundaries with people of widely varies roles within higher education
- As representatives of the institutions they serve to those within the larger community
Committees
During my time at Azusa Pacific University I have served on two committees: the Global Vision Week Committee and the Justice Week Committee. Both committees have given me insight into the importance of effective campus and community relationships. Both committees were composed of representatives of multiple APU Student Life offices and required me to be in contact with multiple representatives of community partners for the creation of programming.
Global Vision Week Committee
I have sat on the Global Vision Week Committee for two years. The committee is made up of members from multiple offices on campus, including Office of World Missions, International Student Services, Chapel Programs, Ministry and Service, Mexico Outreach, Study Abroad, Associated Student Body, and International Outreach Ministries.
During my first year on the committee I assisted with the coordination of the logistics for the 31 events that took place over the course of Global Vision Week. I was in constant contact with Campus Events, Hospitality, IMT, and the offices that were sponsoring and/or hosting each event.
During my second year on the committee I co-chaired the Student Life Sub-committee. The sub-committee oversaw the calendar for the theme week and was in charge of maintaining communication with all the partnering offices for their specific events.
Justice Week Committee
I sat on the Justice Week Committee for two years. The committee is made up of members from multiple offices on campus, including Ministry and Service, Office of World Missions, Chapel Programs, Global Studies, and Associated Student Body. During my time on the committee I have assisted with the development of programming, development of themes, and the implementation of programming.
Social City Fair Organizer
During my second year on the Justice Week Committee I co-chaired the organization of the Social City Fair (a day when we have multiple justice-based non-profits come on campus). My role in the organization of the Social City Fair was to re-create a recruitment letter, initiate and maintain contact with over 20 non-profit organizations, and be present at the Fair to help the non-profits get settled and to answer any questions throughout the day.
Collaboration
During my time at Azusa Pacific University I have had multiple opportunities to collaborate with students, numerous offices on campus and off campus entities. Collaboration is imparative to effective and efficient programming. During my time at Azusa Pacific University I have forged new relationships and upheld longstanding relationships all while creating a network of people and organizations that will assist me in being a successful Student Affairs professional in the future.
